I have been using my sons metal detector for the the last week with some success. We got it for him at a yard sale several years ago. But being a teenager he is too worried about who might see him using it. Being in my early 50's I have managed to get past that issue much to my wifes chagrin. Micronta 4003 Manual
I live in cottage country a few a few blocks away from a popular lake one hour north of Toronto. The metal detector is an old Radio Shack special. Its a Micronta 4001. It has 2 knobs & a gauge. The one switch is the on / off & volume will the other is the descriminator. There was no manual with this MD at the time of purchase. I basically use it with headphones. The volume is about half way while the discriminator is set low. And yes, I dig everything.
The needle jumps the same about when I tested this unit with gold & silver rings along with older & current pennies & the sound of the beep is always the same.
Am I using this the right way? I am finding coins & a couple of rings.Tday I found my first 2 dimes. Does anyone have a manual for this. I tried looking on line & the one place that had one to down load gave my computer a virous that my son issolated & deleted.
The one thing that I have noted is that I have not found any silver yet. I live close to a senoirs trailer park & I think that they probably picked the area clean. I wasn't too sure how good a unit this Micronta is but with finding the 2 dimes today in about 4's of dirt, its pretty good. A basic unit but without any of the fancy bells & whistles found on many newer units. Makes the learning curve short & sweet by digging everything. Many bottle caps, pull tabs, cans & yes car parts.
I have been lurking on this site for the past week & got to admit that your help has made things much easier for me. Thanks for everything!
